Red Eye Garage Custom Billiard Ball Shift Knob December 01 2013

Billiard ball shift knobs are nothing new, but for BMWs, we haven't been able to find any. This may be due to the fact that the selector rod is not threaded design, and creating a shift knob involves more than just drilling a hole and tapping the hole. We custom machined an aluminum fitting to fit over the selector rod and set it inside a billiard ball. We chose the red 3 ball, because the red matches the color of the car, and the 3 seems appropriate on a 3-series.

If there is enough interest, we'll make a batch of these shifters. Any standard billiard ball would be available, and the knob would fit all 1982 and newer BMWs with manual transmissions. Let us know what you think in the comments below, or on our Facebook page.

The shift knob feels awesome in the hand, and it is weighted just right. It looks right at home inside our E30 318iS project car, and the matching red brings a nice continuity to the cockpit. If you like this, you might like what you see in our store as well.
